Betzone has no sister sites and no site of its own. Richmond Atlantic Ltd closed the sportsbook in December 2025, eleven months after relaunching it on a new platform. The brands it once shared a licence with had been split off in January 2025: two of them still take bets under licences of their own, one closed in March 2025, and three more have to be checked one at a time.

💼 Four company names, and only two of them held the Betzone licence
Richmond Atlantic Ltd was the final licensee. It bought the brand in July 2024, rebuilt it, and closed it in December 2025. Its British licence is now inactive, and it also held Irish licensing, which let it take cross-border play.
Playbook Gaming Limited held the licence before that and ran Betzone as a white-label beside its own brands. It gave up its British licence entirely in November 2025, a month before Betzone shut.
Bet21 Limited, formerly Stan James, is where the name comes from. It ran high-street betting shops from 1973, for close to five decades, before anything went online.
Metric Gaming supplied the sportsbook technology for the final version. It is not an operator and it never held a licence here.
Nothing is recorded against Richmond Atlantic Ltd. The closure was commercial, and the company said so: it cited unsustainable competition and the difficulty of building volume against operators that have been trading for decades.
📅 A 1973 betting shop, four years online, and a closure in December 2025
The Betzone name is older than the website by nearly fifty years. Bet21 Limited, trading as Stan James before that, ran betting shops from 1973. The online book opened in 2021 on the Playbook Gaming white-label platform, as one of seven names on that licence alongside Planet Sport Bet, BresBet, DragonBet, Vickers, Rhino Bet and Yeeehaaa Bet.
Richmond Atlantic bought it in July 2024 and announced a rebuild. The migration finished in January 2025 and the in-house racing product went live that April. Rhino Bet closed in March 2025, Playbook Gaming gave up its licence in November, and Betzone followed in December. Four years online in total, eleven months of them on the rebuilt platform.
🛠 A Dutch platform, a racing product built in-house, and a fresh licence
The January 2025 migration was not a redesign. Richmond Atlantic replaced the whole product and kept the name.
Metric Gaming took the sportsbook platform over from the Playbook white-label. Metric had only ever run in the Netherlands before this, powering two sportsbooks there during 2024, so Betzone was its first British deployment. GiG Software X-Suite sat in the final stack alongside it.
The racing product that launched in April 2025 had no equivalent at any other British bookmaker: a horse racing system built in-house by the technology supplier rather than licensed in from outside, covering British and Irish meetings with Best Odds Guaranteed from 10am daily. The Metric chief executive, Keith Hayes, put it forward as the flagship British feature.
The licence was new as well, with no compliance history carried over from the Playbook years. And every existing customer had to open an account again from the beginning when the new platform went live.
✅ What the rebuild fixed: the platform, the racing product and the licence were all new, and the site ran without a reported outage after the relaunch.
❌ What it never fixed: a £30 entry price, no e-wallet at all, and football margins a full point above both former siblings still trading.
💳 Debit cards, bank transfer, and nothing else
Visa debit, Mastercard debit and bank transfer were the whole list. No PayPal, no Apple Pay, no Skrill, no Neteller, no e-wallet of any kind.
The minimum deposit was £30, against £5 to £10 at most British competitors, which puts the price of a first bet three to six times higher than usual. Withdrawals were published at 2 to 5 business days, though some players reported money arriving in half an hour, so the speed was inconsistent rather than uniformly slow. The maximum payout was £500,000 a day on most events, a high ceiling on a book that never had the volume to reach it.
Betfred takes PayPal, Apple Pay, Paysafecard and bank transfer. BetVictor takes Apple Pay, Google Pay, Trustly and Visa Fast Funds. Betzone offered none of the fastest routes out.
📋 What the final Betzone offered
Football margins of about 7.68%, against about 6.57% at BresBet, about 6.5% at Planet Sport Bet and 5 to 7% at the stronger British books. A lower margin means a better price for the bettor.
28 sports covered, against 30 or more at the larger operators.
No live streaming on any sport, and no esports markets at all.
Best Odds Guaranteed on British and Irish racing from 10am, with iOS and Android apps that both worked well.
👥 Two took a licence of their own, one closed, three need checking
The split happened in January 2025, when Richmond Atlantic moved Betzone onto its own platform. Three of the six names that had shared the old licence have a settled outcome.
BresBet
🥇 Racing and greyhounds, licensed in its own right since February 2025 · Last Researched On 15 August 2026
BresBet took a British licence of its own in February 2025 under BresBet Ltd, rather than following Betzone into the Richmond Atlantic structure. It still runs on the Playbook technical infrastructure, so the platform is unchanged while the governance is entirely separate. The founder, Nic Brereton, is personally involved in racing, and that gives it a specialism the wider Playbook network never made much of.
📰 Football365 and TEAMtalk editorial inside the bet slip · Last Researched On 15 August 2026
Planet Bet Ltd took a licence at the same time and the book has traded independently since early 2025, also keeping the Playbook technology underneath. Behind it sits Planet Sports Group, the media company that owns Football365 and TEAMtalk, and the betting pages carry editorial sports content next to the markets. Football margins run at about 6.5%, more than a point better than Betzone managed.
Rhino Bet
🛑 Closed in March 2025 without taking a licence · Last Researched On 15 August 2026
Rhino Bet was the Playbook Gaming flagship, with a casino section branded Rhino Reels, and it is the one former sibling that did not restructure. It stopped operating in March 2025 without taking a licence of its own, nine months before Betzone closed.

Vickers, DragonBet and Yeeehaaa Bet were in the wider Playbook portfolio, and the status of each one has to be checked individually.
💰 Five steps for a balance that never came out
British rules require an operator to protect customer money and to give a withdrawal window when it closes, and the December 2025 wind-down should have followed that. Because this was an economics problem rather than a compliance failure, the money should have been handled properly all the way through, which is not always how it goes when a regulator forces a closure instead.
📞 Five stages, in order
Straight away: find the closure email from Richmond Atlantic Ltd, spam folder included. The withdrawal window and the timeline should be in it.
48 hours: with no reply, contact the operator through any channel still working, and note the date and the method of every attempt.
72 hours: send a formal written complaint with the account details, the balance and evidence of the deposits.
7 days: take it to the Gambling Commission, which keeps obligations to customers through a wind-down even on an inactive licence.
Debit card deposits: if the operator route has failed, ask the bank about a chargeback. It runs in parallel with the operator and regulator routes rather than after them.
🔒 The block set here is gone, and nothing carried it over
A self-exclusion set at Betzone was set with Richmond Atlantic Ltd, not with the industry. That licence is inactive, the exclusion went with it, and it transfers to no other operator. Anyone who was relying on it has nothing in place today.
GAMSTOP is the one that outlives an operator. It is national, it is not run by any casino or bookmaker, and one sign-up there stops new accounts being opened right across the licensed market. Set it up before opening an account anywhere else, because it does not work backwards.
